My Kind of Hero
First Review for Sweet Revenge!
Sweet Revenge has been given five angels by Carly over at Fallen Angel Reviews, here's a snippet of what she had to say,
This is one Regency romance that is less about
frippery and frills than about human nature and
revenge. I was pulled into this story right away. The
exchange between Carys and her horrid aunt is
priceless! The nasty old woman is just plain rotten
but Carys is quick-witted enough to give as good as
she gets. I laughed out loud at the dialogue! So witty
and fast paced, it made the words race by. The mystery
of this is intricate and could be a bit confusing if
the reader doesn’t follow closely. The love story is
sweet, and I like the fact that forgiveness and moving
on is part of this story.
Sweet Revenge by Marly Mathews is a very enjoyable
story, one that is both entertaining and amusing!

Where Do Your Ideas Come From?
The question I’m asked most often is, “Where do you get your ideas?” The seeds for my stories come from the packet called What if? I sprinkle them with an overactive imagination and observations of human behavior. A news report, event in my life, or a scene from a movie can grow into a bud of an idea. You twist and sow those ideas until you have a scene, then a chapter, then a novel.
For example, I heard an undercover agent was working the nightclub scene in Scottsdale, AZ. He was probably after men slipping date rape drugs into women’s drinks. Date rape drugs mess with your mind. Then it him me; What if a chemist making an antidote for date rape drugs accidentally invents a chemical that controls your mind? What if his supervisor steals the drug to commit murder? That was the seed and series of thoughts that grew into Liquid Hypnosis.
Keep a watchful eye out for exciting news!! I'll soon be announcing the release date of Liquid Hypnosis, along with the launch of my website at www.SuspenseByTina.com

Finally, This Season release day!
This is my eighth short story with The Wild Rose Press. I'm just as thrilled today as I was the day my first short story with them, For The Love of Grace, came out. I just love being a part of this publishing house, being here with this dynamite group of talented authors and getting to know readers who appreciate a good romance. What more could anyone ask for?
A litte about Finally, This Season...
Alexandra can’t think of anything more annoying than being told she must choose a husband, and soon, but that’s exactly what’s happened. Her father has decided she’s of an age where marriage is appropriate—necessary, even—and has decreed she will choose her own husband this Season or he will do the choosing for her. What is a proper young woman to do in circumstances such as these? That is precisely what Alexandra is contemplating as she takes a walk in the park, and accidentally kicks a stone at a handsome stranger.
And a taste of the story itself...
Alexandra Parkington kicked random stones into the greenery beside the red-cobbled walk with the toe of a shiny black side-button shoe. The mildly violent action gave her some measure of relief from the vexing issues in her mind—although not enough.

I'm excited about seeing my story available out on the Wild Rose Press site. It is in the Vintage Rose line, Minature Rose length of 6500 words. Let me give you a description a bit different than my first and only other post.
Leroy Doyle, a chemistry major and track star, is in grade trouble after flunking calculus in his second semester freshman year. He wishes for brains like Jody Stinson who his chemistry major friends don't like. They describe her as arrogant and frigid, terms they feel are too kind for her. Leroy refuses to judge anybody that harshly. Well, wouldn't you know, he winds up with Jody as a lab partner in their sophomore qualitative analysis class. Despite her sharp remarks and unwillingnesss to socialize with him, he strives to get along with her. In fact, he can't get his mind off Jody, even at the end of the first day they met. A hard workout at the track does his body good but not his mind. The physical exhaustion fails to free his mind of Jody. He's hooked and labors to win her heart. Let me give you a different excerpt than I gave earlier, one that will make you like Jody a bit more than that first excerpt.
One day in lab Doctor Braddock approached Leroy and Jody.
"The two of you are doing so well in lab that I'm going to have to make a change."
"You're not going to split us up are you. . .Professor?" Leroy quickly asked. Boy, he lost control there. Jody stared at him. He blushed.
"Don't get you Bunsen burner out of whack, Doyle. I'm going to give the two of you separate unknows. No collaboration. You'll continue to share glassware and chemicals. I need to know it you're as good alone as you are partnering." With that, he gave them separate unknowns with the stipulation they finish in the regular lab time.
"Well, this will be a time crunch," Leroy exclaimed.
"What's the matter? Don't you think you're up to the task?" Jody asked.
"Well, there's one way to find out." Leroy realized the barbs had been resharpened.
He finished his unknown with five minutes to spare, Jody finishing a few minutes before him. Doctor Braddock looked at their results and gave them both an A. As they walked into the brisk November air, Leroy closed his coat collar tighter to shut out the wind. Jody's hair was longer and it spread neatly on the fur collar of her coat, appealing to him.
"I suppose you'd like to use the B-word to describe me. You know, the word applied to female dogs?"
"I would never use a word like that to describe you," Leroy said, wondering if she cared how he would describe her.
"It doesn't matter anyway," she said.
"I'd be really ticked off if I heard somebody call you that, if that matters to you." She didn't comment so he continued. "There are two B-words I would use to describe you though."
"Oh, and what would those words be? Again, I don't know why I care."
"I'd like to tell you those two words over a milk shake at Benny's this evening."
"You've been bugging me all semester for that shake. Why is that so important to you?"
"I'll answer that over the shake too, and this is only the fifth time I've asked you."
"You've been keeping track?"
"Sounds like it, doesn't it?" We can study too. It's quiet at Benny's in the evening and deserted. We won't consider it a social outing or date since we'll be studying too."
"All right. What time?" Jody sighed.
"Really?"
"What time, before I change my mind."
"Seven. The evening meal crowd will be gone."
There you have it. Longer than I intended.
Thanks Mia and Allie for your welcome comments.
Mia, stay out of those hallways.
Allie, I'm a runner too.
Until next time. Larry
Reading romance novels aid weight loss?
The only thing I can think of that makes any sense, is that reading romance novels can give the reader a sense of well being. The Happy Ever After ending is the normal prerequisite in this type of novel, so consequently, this might make the reader feel more content with life which in turn stops them dipping into the biscuit barrel.
On the other hand, I suppose the reverse could happen. What if a woman is married to a couch potato who belches, scratches his balls and refuses to get off his backside as she serves him hand, foot and finger. What if the lady in question reads of this fantastic, have-a-go hero with rippling muscles and a well toned torso who f***s like a dynamo. She glances at the couch potato realising that she's spent her best years with a man who cares very little for her.
Does she do a * Shirley Valentine and go searching for her own hero or settle for what she's got, pull out a packet or two of potato chips, a box of chocolates, a bottle of Strongbow cider and join her Mr. Couch Potato [ala Wayne and Waynetta]?
I plan to give the * Romance Reader Diet a go. I intend to read as many romances as I can lay my sticky little fingers on over the next couple of weeks and I'll let you know if I end up like Waynetta Slob or Winona Riding.

Coming in ebook from WRP, July 27, 2007! THREE OF SWORDS!
------------------------------------------
A shadow cast over me and I looked up, just as the sun set behind a man standing at my booth.
“Excuse me.” A deep, male voice filled my senses. “Do you have a permit to perform fortune telling?”
I squinted up at him, moving to my left to get a better view. It was Mr. Tall and Dark. “Yes, I do. Who are you, and why do you ask?”
“Adrian Burke. Police Chief of Fort Bedford.”
So, this was the new guy in town, direct from Chicago. I hadn’t met the new Chief yet. He’d been on the job for about three weeks. Local residents were already choosing sides as to whether or not they liked him. So far, the voting ran about fifty-fifty. I wasn’t sure where I fell in the polls, but the frown on his face wasn’t helping his cause. “Welcome to Fort Bedford, Chief. Here’s my permit.”
I opened my pouch and pulled out the paper. The law requiring permits for “fortune telling” originated decades ago with my Grandmother, one of the many failed attempts on the part of the town council to curtail her herbal and magical work for her clients. Granny had thrived on the conflict, the battle to uphold the ancient ways. I was the complete opposite.
Chief Burke took the paper from my hands and scanned it, his dark brows pulled low over his eyes. Did this man ever laugh? I didn’t see much evidence of it. He returned it to me, a bit of frustration in his expression.
I couldn’t resist. “What’s the matter? Sorry you can’t run me in?”
He cleared his throat as a guilty look crossed his face. “I’m checking to make sure all booths have their proper licenses.”
“Really? How many booths have you checked?”
“Just yours, so far.”
I picked up the cards and shuffled, but kept my gaze on him. “I see. How interesting. I take it you’re not a supporter of Tarot?”
He gave me a slight grin. “I wouldn’t say that. Although it does make me think of that Jamaican lady on those old late-night commercials.”
I laughed. “Please don’t compare me to her. I bet she couldn’t get a permit in Fort Bedford to save her life.”
I lowered my gaze from the Chief for a moment and pulled a random card from the deck. The Lovers card leapt into my hand, its naked and nubile male and female side by side, unashamed and passionate. By the gods, no. I shoved the image back into the stack and set the cards aside. “I’m Selene MacPherson.” I put out my hand in greeting. “I own Mimosas and Magnolias. It’s a restaurant down on the shoreline.”
He took my hand. His grasp was warm and firm, with a confidence that communicated this was no “small town guy”. His fingers held the calluses of a man who knew how to work hard. The burn scars on the back of his hand surprised me. He abruptly ended the handshake as soon as my gaze touched them.
I looked up in surprise, a vortex of energy pulling at the edge of my consciousness. The Festival scene around him began to narrow and recede as his image grew sharper. It was as if his spirit demanded my awareness. Against my active will, a part of me pushed open to receive him. A great surge of sorrow rushed forward, like an ocean wave at high tide. The force of it shook me. I’d never felt that much emotion from someone so quickly. It was—
The high-pitched voice of Gladys Miller shook me out of my trance. “I’m praying for you, Selene MacPherson.”
Oh, no. Just what I’d feared. Why had I let the Foundation talk me into running this booth? I swallowed my embarrassment and smiled at her. “Bless you, too, Mrs. Miller.”
The older woman’s mouth snapped shut into a thin little line. She stalked away toward the town gazebo.
The Chief motioned toward her retreating back with his thumb. “A fan of yours, I take it?”

Want to know more?? Next Friday reveals all!
Here's an extra. What are reviewers saying about TOS? Here's a taste:
"Adrian is the new Chief of Police in this quaint little town, and not used to the quirks of small town life. Adrian comes from the crime ridden streets of Chicago, looking to escape the shadows of his past. He has only just started and already a murder has taken place, and there are very little clues left for the investigators to find.
Selene has tried to reassure the townspeople that she is in fact a normal woman, and not the witch she is rumored to be. All she desires is her and her daughters to be able to live a normal life, free from scrutiny. All that changes when a murderer comes to town and strikes close to home, Selene is forced to use her powers. Selene feels the impressions left by the victims before their death and as such becomes the Chief’s most valuable asset. She has come a long way to securing the normalcy she has coveted, and now it may be too late.
Three of Swords is a magical tale that emphasizes the importance of family. Selene, our heroine keeps us in suspense as she wrestles with her beliefs and emotions. And Adrian our sexy man in uniform battles with control as he is overridden with guilt over his inability to close this case. The two characters trying to overcome their demons make this one enjoyable read.
As you delve deeper into Three of Swords you start getting into the mind of a killer, with supernatural ability of his own. Nothing can be taken at surface value, leaving this book with an ending that will take you by surprise. Joanna Moore makes witches proud as she includes the elements necessary to captivate her readers, and for this reviewer the only complaint is it wasn’t longer. Three of Swords is required reading for anyone needing a little suspense in their lives."

It Happened One Summer Releases Today!

One Stalker...
It Happened One Summer releases today in digital format. It will be published in print on 12th of October.
Here's a short excerpt:
“I don’t know if I can take much more of this, Matt.” She stood in the doorway of the bedroom behind him, like a little girl lost—a far cry from the strong, confident woman who sent him out shopping for her dinner party that morning.
“This person may just want to knock you off balance in some way. I think it may be an idea if you went along with these e-mails. It may help the police catch the culprit.”
“You mean I should try to get into a conversation with the Grim Reaper?” He nodded. “I don’t know if I can. I just want to switch the computer off and not check my mail ever again.”
“I’ll tell you what... how do you feel if I pretend to be you? The author will have no idea it is me responding, will they? And you don’t even have to look at any of these e-mails.” He wanted to spare her any further trauma, but he had to find out who this person was before they got to
He got up and held his arms wide open for her, “Come here...” She didn’t hesitate to go into them, as if they were her sanctuary. Heck, he wanted to tilt up her chin and lower his mouth to her lips, to lose himself in a kiss with her. But he knew that wouldn’t be the right thing to do—the timing was all wrong. She was vulnerable right now, and he had no intention of playing on that fact.
“No, don’t do that. Look, one of your guests could be the Grim Reaper. You know what they say: Keep your friends close, your enemies closer. He felt her shiver in his arms. “I’ll be here to support you. I won’t be drinking and I’ll be keeping an eye on everyone.”
“But suppose it is one of my guests. How would they have my e-mail address?”
“It’s not as difficult as you might imagine. I found an old pal of mine when I came back to

New "kid" checking in.
My story is entitled Lab Partners and takes place in the 1950s. Here is a brief summary.
Leroy Doyle, a chemistry major and track star, is bordering on scholastic probation due to poor math grades during his freshman year. He doesn't need a girl friend to distract him from his studies and has no intention of seeking one. Well, those intentions go out the window the first day he meets Jody Stinson, a sophomore chemical engineering major and the smartest student in the sophomore class. She is arrogant, beautiful, and non responsive to Leroy's friendliness. This serves to fuel his interest in her especially since they are lab partners in their qualitative analysis lab. She makes it clear she has no desire to socialize with him. Leroy tries to tell himself it is for the best but he cannot convince himself.
Let me give you a short excerpt which I gave to TWRP.
"Hi, I'm. . ."
"You going to be late for every lab?" She asked as he placed his books near hers.
"Leroy Doyle," he said, extending his hand for a shake. She ignored it, maintaining a scowl.
"I'm hoping my literature professor will allow me to leave class five minutes early the day we have lab. Smith Hall is a long way." Leroy gave up and withdrew his offer for a hand shake.
"I'm not interested in your excuses. I'm only partnering with you because Doctor Braddock insists everyone have a partner," Jody said, staring at him with her piercing brown eyes.
There you have it and my first post. See you next time.

If you want something which is very typical TX:
Y.O. Ranch

Here's an excerpt:
Stephanie sat in Dylan's armchair next to the fire place and kicked
off her boots. It was eleven-thirty. She must have dozed off as the
next thing she knew she was opening her eyes and the clock showed that
it was almost midnight. That was odd. Surely it wouldn't take Dylan
half an hour to fetch a couple of bottles from the cellar?
She slipped back into her boots and walked down the corridor in the
direction of the cellar. When she got there, the door was slightly ajar.
"Dylan!" she cried out, her voice echoing into the abyss. There was no
answer, so she pushed the heavy, creaking door until it opened fully.
She searched for a light switch but failed to find one. Perhaps if she
walked down the steps, there would be a switch at the bottom.
It was ice-cold as she descended the stone steps that had probably
been there for generations. Somewhere down in the very depths of the
castle, she heard a faint dripping sound.
Putting both palms on the wall, she scaled her way down in the inky
darkness. Good, she found a wooden rail she could hold on to.
Something brushed against her face and she almost cried out with fear.
Just a cobweb, she reassured herself. You're losing it, lady. Maybe
this was a daft idea and she should retrace her steps back up to the
top. But what if Dylan was lying at the bottom injured? That thought
was enough to spur her on.
Finally, she got to the last step and found a switch and the light
came on. It was very dim, but at least she had some illumination. She
searched around and found a small, dusty table, on top of which was a
candle holder and a box of matches. She struck one and lit the candle,
just as the light bulb fizzled out.
Shadows flickered in the cellar, casting an eerie impression. "Dylan!"
she cried out again. But all was silent. There were rack upon rack of
bottles down here. They must be worth a fortune, she mused.
It was no use, she couldn't find Dylan. She was about to go and then
let out a gasp, the hairs on her neck standing on end as she saw a
woman coming towards her carrying a lighted candle. Then she relaxed,
and let out a long breath when she realised it was only her own
reflection in an old bar room mirror on the wall.
How silly she was being, imagining all kinds of things. She composed
herself and made for the stairs. The cellar door slammed shut and the
candle blew out. Terror gripped her as she fought to keep in control
of her senses. The thud in her ears deafened her as she heard her own
heart beat as loud as a drum. What if no one found her?
"Help!" she tried to shout, but fear made her voice sound weak.
"Someone please help me!" Then she put her hands out in front of her
to try to find her way out.
Stumbling over something, she tripped and fell, hitting her head
against a wine rack. She put her hands out for something solid to help
her to get to her feet and touched something soft and warm. It was a
human leg, someone was standing by her side.
"Dylan, thank goodness. Help me up."
Two strong hands came towards her and helped her to her feet. Then
they forcefully grabbed her from behind, one hand slipping over her
mouth. This was her worse nightmare and she had no idea who it was.
Trembling, she feared she would black out and then what would happen?
Her legs felt like they were going to give way. I have to do
something. She tried to scream but the large hand was firmly clamped
over her mouth...

Bay Leaves and Bundles review
I'm tickled she enjoyed the story!
~SaritaLeone
Do people really rest on their vacations?
I have less time to write and when I do, people peer over my shoulder. I never liked writing in public, but funny--I never classified a guest room in my mom's house as public before. If public is defined by volume, then this blue and beige extra bedroom is Pike's Place Market.
Like a weird funhouse mirror, my world is getting all tarnished and warped with time and distance. The words don't come and deep thoughts get derailed with, "So...what are you writing?"
There's this old management adage that goes, "give a project to a busy person." Because you just know that person will slot it into her to-do list. My writing is fine when I'm strapped for time, but this vacation stuff is eating me up.
Maybe I need a to-do list.
