The Christmas Stocking Game

This is a great game for kids of all ages involving perception you can feel!  Prizes for children can vary from Gingerbread cookies or popcorn balls to small toys. Adults may prefer a gift card or open stocking filled with goodies, a bottle of wine or liter of pop, an ornament or candle, or even an ugly white elephant gift for a booby prize. Doesn’t everybody have something they’d love to recycle?
1.  Fill one or two store-bought felt stockings about 2/3 full with Christmas items such as:a bell, a bow, a candy cane, an unshelled walnut, a Christmas card, candy kisses, a candle, unbreakable ornaments with familiar shapes—like  a star, a small horse or Christmas tree, etc.
2.  Add common items to fill in as needed:  Maybe a credit card, a large paper clip, pen or pencil, sucker, small ruler, comb, toothbrush, spoon, bottle cap, even a surprising item such as a baby pacifier.
 3.  Make a list of all the contents before you sew the stocking shut, making sure the stitches will not break.
4.  Supply note paper and pencils to every player.
5.  Pass the stocking around, setting a timer—allowing each person to “FEEL” the objects and write down what they feel in a designated time limit of 30 to 60 seconds.
6.  Whoever lists the most objects they can identify by touch wins a prize. (This is fun when you have a lst prize, runner up and booby prize!)  Perhaps a gift card or open stocking filled with goodies, a bottle of wine or liter of pop, an ornament or candle, or even an ugly white elephant gift for a booby prize. Doesn’t everybody have something they’d love to recycle?
7. Variation: with two or more stockings you can divide guests into a relay group and the winning team who guesses the most items correctly gets to open the stockings and divide the spoils, OR winners can choose from a larger open stocking  or bowl of small wrapped gifts.

  11. As our family grows (fewer young kids) we are drifting into a "gaming era" after eating and opening gifts. I love playing board games, card games, anything competitive that gets everyone interactive. Please share ANY game ideas with me for next year! It's fun to see the teens play with the adults instead of checking their iphones!
