Hiding In Plain Sight by Cheryl A. Cornell

Welcome Cheryl to our garden interviews

Tell us about your writing.

The hardest chapter for me to write is the last. The opening always comes with character development, setting and plot points.

When dealing with small writer’s block, I will take a walk outside to clear my mind.  If the block goes beyond a change of scenery and fresh air, I put the project aside until I find perspective or clarity. I usually have several projects open at the same time in different stages of development. Working on something totally different for a few days helps.

I have a house rule of set work hours. If I don’t take my writing seriously, nobody around me will respect my boundaries and nothing would get accomplished. I have the luxury of turning off my phone between ten AM and five PM.

The first time, without hesitation I allowed myself to consider I was a writer was the day The Wild Rose Press contracted A Little Color In His Life, 2008.

While I don’t always know the exact specifics, I always know in the end, my characters will find a way to be together.

and tell us about you.

The hero of my world is my husband of thirty plus years. He is a rare combination of the bad boy and the perfect gentlemen with a hint of the devil, knowing how far to push the line but keep his principles. He believes in my work and helps to make it a priority in our lives.

If I came with a warning label it would be blunt.

My favorite time of year is fall, when the air is crisp and the leaves are changing.

The most realistic portions of Hiding In Plain Sight is my connection with Tony and his ever ready coffee pot. I never leave an empty pot no matter how late or pressured I’m feeling. It soothes me to know at the push of a button I’ll be rewarded with the scent and taste of fresh brew. Along with a stash of mini assorted chocolate bars.

I always laugh at reruns of the skits in the Carol Burnette show from the nineteen seventies. Mel Brooks movie, Young Frankenstein has the same effect. When I’m thinking through an issue, my favorite background music is George Gershwin’s Rhapsody In Blue. When the work day is over, its back to Aerosmith, Led Zepplin and AC/DC rock.

Where can we find you?
