The spicy beef dish he'd just consumed seemed to congeal in his stomach. Had she checked out his cooking credentials also?
"I can see you on the stage." She laughed. "Maybe more than behind the stove."
Lady, you don't know how right you are. "Ah, well, cooking's my new love."
"Where did you do your training? The Internet didn't mention that."
Great. She had him. The only way he could think of to deflect this conversation was to play dumb. "Huh?"
She leaned in, revealing more decolletage. "Cooking school. Which one did you attend?"
He struggled to come up with a response, but his mind was elsewhere. Mesmerized, he watched as she played a finger around the rim of her margarita glass, picking up stray salt particles. How was a guy supposed to think up a plausible story to explain his origins when his brain was otherwise engaged?
She touched her fingertip to her lips. Nick couldn't speak. His eyes locked on her lips as other parts of his anatomy were unlocked. Was she coming on to him?

She froze. Oh, no. Vinnie said he'd take care of that. Missy pulled her cell from her back pocket. Raising her finger to Antoine, she walked across the living room. "One minute, please."

Not bothering with amenities, she demanded, "What did you do with the parking permit?"
"Oh yeah, about that. There was a small problem."
Rage erupted. "What problem? How long have you known about this small problem? And why didn't you tell me before now?" The electric drill from the living room made her head bang.
Jerk. Same old Vinnie. Making promises he couldn't keep. Well, she's had his crap up to her eyeballs, which, by the way, felt like they were ready to pop out of her already pounding head.
"The papers I submitted got misplaced," he murmured in that superior male patronizing tone, which only pissed her off even more.
"When I called to check on the progress, the clerk claimed she didn't know anything about it so I refiled the request. Relax. They told me to come down today and assured me it would be ready."
"Antoine needs it now, Vincent."
His voice rose to dangerous levels. "Tell Antoine I'll get it to him!"
Just like old times Vinnie screaming; her yelling back. "Don't you dare yell at me! I never could depend on you! Why I gave you something as important as this is beyond me!"

Reminder to Pay It Forward by Barbara Edwards

Yesterday Brenda Whiteside blogged about ‘Paying it forward’ on http://rosesofprose.blogspot.com/ and reminded me that doing the little extra something for someone else makes a difference.

Since I’m a writer, I do most of my ‘paying’ for other authors. I tweet, mention on FaceBook, post on StumbleUpon or just send an email around my loops. I use Triberr, a great tool for promo.

What do I think this does? Hopefully the one extra bit of promo sells another book for them. I like to think it does. I like to think that they’ll do the same for me.

Imagine my shock when an RWA chapter I belong to had someone complain about helping a new author scrambling to get her info out there. I didn’t get on the loop and scold her like I should have. I hate to think the petty remark was from envy or jealousy. I hate to think others agreed with her.  

So what else it there I can do? I add tags, click on likes and comment on blogs when I have extra time.

I tried doing a few reviews but found it’s not one of my talents. I guess I need to try harder, especially when I see so many readers do check the reviews and say they are helpful.

I just wish they were easier to post. There’s Amazon, Goodreads, Shelfari, LibraryThing, Barnes&Noble for the Nook as well as posting it as a blog, and those are only a few places.

I do think that Roses are really helpful. A request for votes gets a response from a number of fellow Roses. A request for tags or likes is met with lots of them.

I’ve asked for some myself.

Do I sound selfish? I hope not. I’d like to think everyone will remember me when my turn comes around, but I can’t count on it. So I ‘pay it forward’ anyway.

I love romance - especially romance in the ancient world. I suppose it's the excitement of the time period, with all those soldiers running around and the damsel in distress syndrome - except that I like my heroine to be quick-thinking and self-sufficient. No man, no matter how handsome and well-meaning, is equipped to best the woman in my stories. Yes, 'feminism' raises its pretty little head and before you know it the girl is solving the issues and winning the guy. I just can't help myself. Women have to be represented even in the ancient world. So if you like a good story, with equally matched characters, then MAXIMUS is one you'll enjoy. Happy reading on The Wild Rose Press!
